Post Burn Contracture

The child presented with burn contracture. He was not able to open the fingers completely.

The contractures were released.

The patients require dynamic splinting for a longer period to prevent recurrence.

Burn Contractures

Burn contractures are very commonly seen in the  rural setup. This infant sustained burn contractures with grotesque deformity.  The contractures were released and the child made a remarkable recovery.

 

Gratifying result after release of contractures. Full hand function obtained.

This 25-year-old female had sustained injury at the age of 1 year. The wound healed with very severe contracture.

All opinions were for amputation!

TREATMENT: The contracture was released using magnification.

The release was followed by post-operative splinting to prevent recurrence.

First Web Contracture

The lady had a trauma to the hand.

After healing of the wound, it led to contracture of the first web space.

The first web space is crucial for holding larger objects.

The first web space was opened up surgically. There are several options available. In all the options, some kind of flap is raised to resurface the web skin.

It is important to prevent this contracture by early usage of splints.
