76 years old gentleman progressively developed curling of the ring and small finger over a few years. Though there was no pain but it affected his use of the hand including personal care.
It was diagnosed as DUPUYTREN’S CONTRACTURE. The disease was treated surgically. Without resorting to general anesthesia, regional anesthesia was used. This made the hand numb and painless. The contracted and diseased part was removed and skin contracture corrected with atechnique called Z plasties. The tendons which move the fingers were preserved.
